Talented Sveinsson wins first open tournament in Keflavik
Kjaran Sveinsson is the first winner of the Open Darts Tournaments in the Pilefelag Reykjanesbæjar in Keflavik. Sveinsson defeated in the final another talented dartsplayer in Iceland, Matthias Örn Fridriksson.
Sveinsson started the tournament with an easy 3-0 over Gisli Gjaldþrot. He won his legs in 23,27 and 22 darts. The Icelandic player had an average of 62,60 in his first match.
In the quarterfinals was the legend Thorgeir Gudmundsson his opponent. Thorgeir started very strong with an 100-finish is the first leg. Kjaran came back and punished Thorgeir with his missed doubles. He won 3 legs in a row for the win and takes out 86 for the match. Kjaran ended his match with an average of 68,80.
In the semi-finals played Sveinsson against Oli Halldorsson. Sveinsson began fantastic with an 16 and 25-darter for a 2-0 lead. Halldorsson came back very strong and made it 2-2, despite of the matchdarts of Sveinsson. In the deciding leg takes Sveinsson still the victory with another 16-darter. Sveinsson ended in that match on an average of 64,90.
The other finalist, Matthias Örn Fredriksson reached the final with three matches in a deciding leg. He defeated Skorri Höskuldsson, Gudmundur Sigurdsson and Hallgrimur Egilsson with 3-2.
The final went between Kjaran Sveinsson and Matthias Örn Fredriksson. The latter name began better to the final. Fredriksson won the first two legs 25 and 23 darts. Fredriksson missed 4 darts at the double for 3-0, Kjaran checked 111 out for 2-1. The fourth leg also went to Sveinsson and so it was 2-2. With a 19-darter takes Sveinsson the first lead; 3-2. The young Icelander made the comeback complete by throwing double 6 for a 4-2 victory and the title! Sveinsson recorded an average of 64,00, while Fredriksson ended on an average of 64,50.
