Lucky Egilsson wins IPS Ranking of August, Jonsson runner-up again
The Icelandic player Hallgrimur Egilsson won the IPS Ranking event of August. He also won the first ranking that counts for the WDF World Cup next year. ‘Halli Egils’ defeated Karl Helgi Jonsson in the final.
Egilsson won his first round easy 3-0. In the quarter finals Matthias Örn Fridriksson was his opponent. Fridriksson was 3-0 up and missed 3 match darts to win 4-0. Egilsson managed to fight back and won 4-3! Incredible comeback! In the semi-finals was the talented Kjaran Sveinsson his opponent, but missed too many doubles. Egilsson punished him and won 4-1 to reach the final.
The other finalist was Karl Helgi Jonsson, who reached the second final in a row. Jonsson took revenge to beat Vitor Charrua in the semi-finals 4-2.
In the final Jonsson began better and won the first leg in 22 darts. Jonsson missed a 52-finish for a 2-0 lead, Egilsson checked out 60 for one a piece. Egilsson then won 3 legs in a row with a 96-finish for the victory; 4-1. It wasn’t the best match and you could see that in the averages. Egilsson ended on 61,60, while Jonsson came not further then 60,70.
