Jakobsson wins Pro Tour #4
Friðrik Jakobsson won his very first Pro Tour after a thrilling final against Rodulf Einarsson. Hallgrímur Egilsson still holds on to the top spot of the Pro Tour Order of merit with 5 events left to play.
Friðrik had a tournament average of 69,7 and jumps straight up to 7th in the overall rankings despite only playing one event. A total of 20 players took part in this week´s Pro Tour with a lot of new faces, including both players in the final.
Friðrik beat Magic Mike in the last 16 in a low scoring game. He played better in the quarter final beating Gissur Óli Halldórsson with a 80 checkout and averaging 73. In the semi final he played the current Icelandic Premier League Champion Joseph Doroon. Joseph did not play his best darts and Friðrik won 3-0, throwing a 14 darter in the final leg to advance to the final.
Rodulf won both his last 16 and quarter final quite comfortably 3-0 and played Matthías Örn Friðriksson in the semi final. Rodulf started better and went 2-0 up but Matthías came back to level at 2-2 including a 81 checkout on the bullseye after Rodulf chose not to set up the bullseye chance for the match on a 87 checkout attempt. But Rodulf took out D5 to win 3-2 and set up a final with Friðrik.
Friðrik took the first two legs in 19 and 21 darts before Rodulf broke the throw in the 3rd leg to make it 2-1. Friðrik then made it 3-1 and had match darts but Rodulf forced a decider taking the next 2 legs in 24 and 19 darts. Both players had darts to win the match but it was Friðrik who showed more bottle and closed out the game with a 50 checkout.
Hallgrímur Egilsson still holds on the top spot with 52 points but is followed closely by Matthías Örn on 50 points after his semi final run yesterday. Below is the full Order of Merit after 4 events out of 9:
