Fridriksson wins Pro Tour #5
Matthías Örn Friðriksson picked up valuable points on the Order of Merit and took the no. 1 spot from Hallgrímur Egilsson after winning the fifth Pro Tour event held on Wednesday night in Reykjavík, Iceland. He now tops the table with only 4 events remaining.
Friðriksson was drawn against Egilsson in the last eight and started the match with a 180. He was unable to follow up that good start and Egilsson took the first two legs. Friðriksson survived match darts but was able to send the tie to a sudden death leg where he checked out 81 on the bullseye for the win.
Double trouble followed Friðriksson in his semi final match against Sveinn Skorri Höskuldsson. The match followed the same pattern as before with Höskuldsson going 2-0 up before Friðriksson drawing level and winning the deciding leg.
Last week´s winner Friðrik Jakobsson won his quarter final match agains Sigurður Jónsson comfortably 3-0 before playing Karl Helgi Jónsson in the semi final. Friðrik took a 2-0 lead before Karl Helgi leveled at 2-2 with an 18 dart leg. Friðrik survived match darts from Karl Helgi before taking out tops to meet Friðriksson in the final.
Matthías took out D10 in 21 darts for the first leg of the final but Friðrik drew level with a 17 darter. Matthías took the next two legs in 18 and 22 darts including a 78 checkout on D20. Friðrik fought back to level the match 3-3 in 20 and 17 legs and in the deciding leg of the final Friðrik missed D16 for a 149 checkout to win the match. Matthías took out D20 with his last dart to seal the win and the top spot of the order of merit.
