Back to back Pro Tour wins for Friðriksson
Matthías Örn Friðriksson claimed his fourth Pro Tour win last night in Keflavik, Iceland. He stays on top of the Order of Merit with only 3 events to play.
Hallgrímur Egilsson and Pétur Rúðrik were back after their Europe Cup trip to Hungary where they represented Iceland but were both unable to stop Friðriksson on his way to win his fourth Pro Tour.
Matthías played Artúras Galdikas in the last 64 and won 3-1 with a 68,3 average. In the last 16 he whitewashed Tony Pepito 3-0 but in the quarter final he played his best stuff averaging 92,8 beating Hallgrímur Egilsson 3-1 in 14, 15 and 16 darts. In his semi final he beat Pétur Rúðrik 3-1 to advance to the final.
Joseph Doroon, the current Icelandic Premier League champion was his opponent in the final. He beat Þórólfur Sæmundsson 3-1 in his last 64 match and whitewashed Garcia Gemar 3-0 in the last 16. In his quarter final match he averaged 80,8 in beating Þórhallur Viðarsson 3-1. In his semi final he whitewashed Eyjólfur Agnar Gunnarsson 3-0 to set up the final with Friðriksson.
Joseph took the first leg in 19 darts. Friðriksson drew level with a 14 darter but Doroon took out 71 in the third leg to make it 2-1. He then made it 3-1 and a leg away from the win but Friðriksson forced the decider by winning the next two legs. Friðriksson started the deciding leg with a 180 and finished off the game in 15 darts with a 70 checkout on D8. Friðriksson averaged 80,7 in the final and Joseph 69,4.
The win sees Friðriksson secure his place on top of the Order of Merit with 3 events to play.
